Year-round snow, high mountains, warmth of a chalet. Here, Japan meets Savoie with luxury and sensual pleasure. Welcome to Faye and Mike Jones’ hotel.
"We wanted to do some good for our guests, take them far away from their everyday lives, in a world where they can appreciate life, relax and make wonderful and lasting memories.”
Japan meets France in Savoie in a wonderful all-wood chalet. La Rosière, the French-Italian mountain resort, is where Faye and Mike brought their dream to life. The Hotel The Originals Chalet Matsuzaka combines the best of Savoie and Japan in an idyllic accommodation in La Rosière. “When travelling in Japan we came up with the idea of a chalet-style hotel with a Japanese spa at our favourite ski resort, La Rosière 1850,” explain Faye and Mike. A unique chalet-style hotel which has today become a sanctuary where charm and subtlety are backed up by authenticity and simplicity. This 4-star La Rosière hotel’s 10 rooms are either in Savoie style or fully Japanese. Take your pick. A real Japanese spa and a restaurant combining Japanese, French and English cuisine supplement an offer devoted to guests’ pleasure and enjoyment.
“Our La Rosière accommodation is inspired by traditional Japanese hotels which feature an onsen. The service and rooms and fully personalised,” explain Faye and Mike. Facing south with their balconies giving a sensational view over the valley, the Hotel The Originals Chalet Matsuzaka’s 10 rooms are welcoming and elegant while all having their own unique style. Different sizes and atmospheres: the Hayashi rooms are Japanese inspired while the others have a Savoie influence. There are two Hayashi ‘forest’ rooms decorated in a ‘washitsu’ style, with fitted tatami, shoji-style curtains, bamboo flooring and references to Japan. There are five Savoyard rooms in a typical mountain style, ideal for couples, friends or families. The ‘Attic’ rooms have high wooden ceilings, luxury furniture and large bay windows.

The Hotel The Originals Chalet Matsuzaka has its own restaurant with a combination of different cuisines. In the morning, Faye and Mike will get your day off to a good start with a delicious breakfast. You will discover delicious regional products such as Savoie yoghurts and local cheeses. At the end of the day, before dinner, take time to relax in front of the fireplace with a nice glass of wine.
In an elegant and welcoming setting, every evening you can discover surprising fusion cuisine or yoshoku. The sophisticated dishes combine Japanese and western cuisine. Like in a guest house, the unique menu gives you a choice between 2 starters and 2 mains, all subtle mixtures of the best Japanese, Savoyard and English dishes. A real treat. Faye and Mike’s favourites: scallops with ‘Yuzu’ sauce on a bed of beetroot, veal ‘Katsu’ served with steamed broccoli and honey roasted vegetables and sesame.
In an idyllic setting, the Hotel The Originals Chalet Matsuzaka has wonderful discoveries in store for you.
The hotel has a wonderful Japanese-inspired spa. After a day of skiing or hiking in the mountains, you can relax in the sauna or Japanese baths, ofuro and rotemburo, inside and outside the spa. Massages and beauty treatments are also offered. “Our La Rosière spa has been designed as a treatment for the mind in harmony with the mountains,” explain Faye and Mike. Between 4 and 8pm every day, go to meditate and relax in these peaceful and natural places.
WINTER ACTIVITIESThe hotel is located in Haute-Tarentaise, a lovely region of the Alps.
