LE QUARTIER GOURMAND ET LA BRASSERIE DU REMPART
This 4-star Tournus hotel in the heart of the Saône-et-Loire region makes the ideal base from which to explore everything that Burgundy has to offer.
EXPLORING TOURNUSThe lovely city of Tournus tucked away in the Mâconnais hills contains a few architectural jewels. One such treasure is the Romanesque Saint-Philibert de Tournus church built between the tenth and twelfth centuries which has a remarkable frontage and a surprisingly austere nave. Next, continue your stroll along the banks of the Saône. Enjoy the view of the Saint-Philibert church and the city itself. Keep going as far as the marina. In the centre of the pretty Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville square you will find a statue of famous French painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze.
CORMATIN CHATEAUThis beautiful chateau has understated architecture and a “French rustic” frontage. Inside, you can admire the colourful decor of the Cabinet d'Harmonie, the Marchioness’s bedroom and the ceiling of the Cabinet des Curiosités... You can also relax in the peaceful chateau gardens. From the top of the aviary, you can see the whole park. Biblical paradise is represented with a triangular display featuring an apple tree evoking the forbidden fruit, a maze (a metaphor for difficulties) and paths which stand for the seven heavens.
HÔTEL-DIEU DE BEAUNEWith iconic superb architecture, elegant decor, famous glazed-tile roofs and an old well, the Hôtel-Dieu provides both the luxury of a Gothic palace and the simplicity of a former hospice. The Great Hall or “Room of the Poor” contains a touching statue of Christ with fifteenth-century links. In the Polyptych Hall, the Last Judgment polyptych altarpiece by Rogier van der Weyden is on display.
CLUNY ABBEYThe Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Basilica was built between 1088 and 1130. Having been partly destroyed during the Revolution, it was taken down and sold off stone by stone. For a long time it was the largest church in Christendom, although only a few vestiges remain today. The Holy Water steeple gives you a sense of the original scale and beauty of this key Christian site.
What our customers say
"Great stop towards south with kids"
Very friendly clean hotel. Great for one night stopover towards the south of France. Little outdated but the family room was very comfortable with 2 kids. Quaint village typical French.Would go back next time.
"Great Place to Stay"
We picked Tournus because of its location in our Burgundy wine tour. The room was to a high standard, it had the best bed on the trip, it was clean, very quiet and the air conditioning was perfectly balanced, the bathroom was spacious. The breakfast offered plenty of choice, the setting was relaxed. Regrettably, we found that we had missed out on the hotel’s highly recommended cuisine the night before. It is a family owned hotel and this clearly shows; the staff were very helpful and welcoming. We will stay again.
"A real gem!"
A lovely, character hotel, in a beautiful town, this place was a real find. Splendid room, friendly staff, and superb food in the restaurant. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. This was just a night stop en route to Italy but we would happily have stayed longer. Parking was easy, and access from the motorway wa really simple. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
We have stayed at Les Rempart many tines. It is well situated, close to the motorway. The town is very interesting. The hotel is comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and the food very good. We shall be back.
L’hôtel devait être très haut de gamme il y a 20 ans... maintenant on est dans du très rétro.... ça manque de modernité!!! mais le service est de qualité.
