The best Auvergne-Rhône Alps Lakes for a weekend away

What could be better than the crystal-clear water of an Alpine lake? Whether you want to go boating, swimming, or just enjoy the views, let The Originals Hotels show you the best destinations. Book now your getaway and get up to 30% discount for your accommodation with our Smooth Rate.

Lake Annecy

Want to know what to do at Lac Annecy? This gorgeous lake is ideal for pedal boating or, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, waterskiing or wakeboarding. There are many great routes for walking around the shore, admiring the clear blue waters. It's also famous for its beaches, which are perfect for a bit of sunbathing!

Be sure to visit the charming town of Annecy, with its Venetian-style canals and storybook architecture. Hotel Beauregard, The Originals Relais is just south of town, on the shores of the lake, and offers stunning views and authentic local cuisine.

Lac du Bourget

France's deepest lake, Lac du Bourget, has trails running all the way around it. Go for a walk or do as the locals do and try rollerskating along the tarmac paths. Swimming in the lake is also popular.

Stay at Hôtel L'Iroko, The Originals City to explore the town of Aix-les-Bains. Aix-les-Bains sailing is extremely popular, and there are courses available for beginners.

Lac de Lessy

Nestled high in the mountains, Lac de Lessy is our choice for anyone who really wants to get away from it all. This is simply the best lake for hiking routes. The lake is at an altitude of 1,733 m and has plenty to offer even the most experienced hikers. Watch out for a glimpse of the local wildlife: Marmots and ibex live nearby!

Lac de Grangent

Unlike the other lakes on our list, Lac de Grangent is artificial - but that doesn't make it any less impressive! This is our top pick if you want stunning scenery nearby. The Château de Grangent, on an island in the lake, is breathtakingly beautiful, and definitely worth a visit.

Lake Geneva

Of course, no discussion of alpine lakes would be complete without the big daddy of them all. For the best views of Lake Geneva, go to Mont Salève. You can hike to the top or travel by cable car, and you'll enjoy a spectacular panorama across the lake and beyond. Daring types can also try paragliding over the waters for a major adrenaline rush!

Not feeling quite so adventurous? There are pleasure cruises that cross the lake, stopping at all the major towns as well as the beautiful Chillon Castle. This will give you the chance to hop across the border to Switzerland to go sightseeing in the city of Geneva. Be sure to visit the picturesque town of Yvoire, on the shores of the French side of this lake. This fortified town has stunning medieval buildings which will take you back in time. Come in summer to admire the floral displays that line every street.
