This is the largest regional natural park in metropolitan France. It extends into the heart of Auvergne, around Riom-ès-Montagnes, across nearly 400 000 ha and has five natural regions: four volcanic (Puy de Dôme, Dore mountains, mountains of Cantal and Cézallier) and a granite region, Artense. An exceptional natural and human environment that is a must-see during a stay in Vitrac.
An extraordinary outing awaits you on the Cantal mountains. Admire the view from the top of Puy Mary summit on the largest volcanic massif in Europe. You will see summits with amazing shapes: the Puy Griou, which looks like a peak; the Puy Mary, in the shape of a pyramid; the Plomb du Cantal, the highest point, looks like a fist. Glacial valleys spread out in star form: you cross many passes, like Pas de Peyrol, the highest road pass of the Massif Central, which makes it possible to discover the Cirque du Falgoux.
The commercial and tourist capital of Haute Auvergne, Aurillac is not lacking charm with its half-timbered houses and offers special events in August during the international street theatre festival. And definitely don’t forget to take a walk in the peaceful neighbourhood of Carmes.
