SÈTEAt the foot of Mont Saint Clair, which rises 183 m and is only joined to the land by two narrow bands of sand, Sète has a fishing and commercial port and a marina. The town is famed for its canals, its old port dating from 1666, its buildings with their colourful façades, its bridges, and more besides. The Royal Canal, the maritime gateway to the Canal du Midi, is a lively place in the summer when the jousting contests take place. The waterfront is lined with restaurants, their terraces looking onto the canal which is protected by the Saint-Louis breakwater.
CIRQUE DE NAVACELLESThis is the most prestigious site in the Vis valley, between the causses (limestone plateaux) of Blandas (Gard) and Larzac (Hérault), classified as the 15th Grand Site de France in 2017. It takes the form of an immense, magnificent meander, plunged deep between almost vertical walls. The Vis originally encircled a small promontory, later abandoning it, where the hamlet of Navacelles developed.
THE FABRE MUSEUM IN MONTPELLIERDon’t miss out on a visit to this Montpellier museum created in 1825 with the support of local painter François-Xavier Fabre (1766-1837). The museum’s collection, extensively enlarged since then, thanks in particular to donations from local artists such as Bazille and Soulages, boasts more than 900 works (out of over 7,000 items), displayed in chronological order from the Renaissance to the present day.
NATURAL SPACESExplore Languedoc's lakes, a paradise for bird life. Grey herons, flamingos, terns, ducks and coypu inhabit the Méjean, Bagnas and Orpelières nature reserves, true havens dedicated to the protection of a fragile ecosystem. Take a stroll by the Aresquiers wood, or the Grande-Conque volcanic cliffs at Cap d'Agde, while further north-east La Gardiole mountain serves as backdrop where the garrigue scrubland, the vineyards and the sea come together.

"Basic no frills but everything was perfect"
I needed a hotel to sleep and have breakfast, therefore I didn’t need lavish gardens, a swimming pool, sauna or gym. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and there was air con, the shower worked as did the tv. All the basics were there and it was good value for money. Breakfast was typical buffet but was sufficient, in fact I thoroughly enjoyed it and again good value for money at €8. The staff were excellent. I arrived late after reception had closed and the lady on duty left me a perfectly precise message about gaining entry, where my room was and every detail I needed. This message was left to me in near perfect English as well so I was very grateful. This hotel was a perfect base to explore the area. My very grateful thanks to the staff at this hotel.
"Short stay in Beziers"
The accommodation room was small but clean. The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. The continental breakfast was good value when considering the high cost of eating out in France. They provided me with gluten-free bread as requested. The room was sufficiently well soundproofed to prevent noise from nearby traffic and very high winds. For the price it was good value for money.
