The wind through the pines, the ocean surf, a timeless dwelling where the sea heightens your sensations. Welcome to the world of the Seguin family.
"We’ve preserved the authenticity and charm of this beautiful home, adding a touch of modernity to receive our guests in the best possible way and guarantee them a wonderful stay."
Royan accommodation, the former home of the Duchess of Rohan, is nestled at the heart of vast grounds above Nauzan beach in Vaux-sur-Mer, looks like it’s straight out of the nineteenth century. This elegant mansion, in its lush green setting, has been a family residence for several generations. The Seguin family wishes to share its history with their guests, privileged witnesses of an art de vivre boosted by sea air for over a century. Beyond its chic look, the Hotel Residence de Rohan, The Originals Relais remains a place of life where hospitality prevails. This 3-star hotel is both authentic and modern, combining tradition, comfort and trendy details. The 44 rooms are a subtle mix of calm and art de vivre, enveloped by the sound of the waves. The Belle Époque atmosphere is enhanced by high-tech touches for added comfort. And a beautiful heated outdoor pool makes this bucolic setting even more attractive.
We wanted to preserve the authenticity and charm of this house. And give our customers a personalised welcome. Moreover, our rooms have not been standardised – they’re all different, explain the Seguin family. The elegant rooms with their Belle Epoque style will plunge you into the heart of the nineteenth century, when ladies in hats strolled the grounds. Some rooms are decked out in a more contemporary style, but the level of comfort remains the same throughout, with all the necessary amenities. Finally, the terrace rooms have access to the grounds and, a little further on, the beach.

To get your day off to a great start, the Seguin family provide an excellent buffet or continental breakfast served on the terrace, in the shade of the large pines, or in your room. The hotel has a bar where you can relax after a long lazy day at the beach or exploring the surrounding area. The Seguin family encourage you to "settle down comfortably in an armchair in the lounge and just soak up the spirit of the Résidence". Woodwork, period paintings and traditional decor make this bar a magical place.
The Hotel Residence de Rohan, The Originals Relais location in Vaux-sur-Mer, between Royan and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, makes it an ideal base to appreciate the charms of a splendid coastline.
It’s perfectly possible to combine walking with foodie delights. The Seguins recommend a walk around La Tremblade, 25 minutes from Vaux-sur-Mer. There, along Chenal de la Grève, you’ll find pretty oyster huts in a myriad of colours. You’ll also be able to sample shellfish, oysters and the famous Charentaise specialty: pine-smoked mussels.
ROYANJean-Baptiste Camille Corot nicknamed this place the "pearl of the ocean". But that was in the 19th century. Much of Royan was since destroyed during the Second World War. This city, emblematic of the Côte de Beauté during the Belle Epoque, has preserved its beautiful sandy beaches. A walk towards Conche de Pontaillac is highly recommended, especially since there are some Belle Epoque villas to admire in the park and Pontaillac neighbourhoods.
FROM GROUNDS TO GREEN
The Hotel Residence de Rohan, The Originals Relais grounds overlook the sea. You’ll walk through them regularly, but you can also stop here, sit on a chaise longue and close your eyes. Or read a good book. Set off from the hotel for beautiful walks along the coastline. Finally, a partnership with Royan golf course gives guests special rates to walk this magnificent 18-hole set-up and play golf, of course!
What our customers say
"1 night in ORIGINAL Hotel saint Palais"
It was a good time for me, very nice place to be with a very good bedroom and breakfast.
"A discovery and a delight!"
I am not a beach person and a friend advised that I should stay at Royan while visiting Charente maritime. I thought the hotel looked good when I booked it but it surpassed my expectations. Wonderfully situated in pine trees on a quiet headland above a beautiful beach and bay I just fell in love with the place. I had fine weather and could use the pool and the beach. The breakfasts were excellent and i could eat well within 100m at night. Friendly service and easy for access and parking.
