When Philippe heard that the Hotel The Originals City, Hôtel Le Coeur d'Or, Sedan Est, the hotel-restaurant the other side of the square from his bar, was going to close he didn’t hesitate for long. “My husband is a trained chef, and a good one too!” explains Catherine. “We couldn’t let this establishment disappear and Douzy is a lively commune where there is demand.” The time for thinking was over, the couple threw themselves into the venture and too bad if they’re not experienced in the hotel business. “We’ll learn, we’re highly motivated!” Since they arrived in June 2018, the restaurant of this Douzy hotel has undergone a revolution, starting by giving it back its old name: Le Cœur d’Or. “My husband only cooks fresh products. Everything is prepared at the last minute.” The decor will come later. As will the 22 rooms. But the essentials are there: comfort, cleanliness, quiet.

The 22 rooms at the Hotel The Originals City, Hôtel Le Coeur d'Or, Sedan Est are all spacious, comfortable and functional. Some are very charming with their beams or walls with exposed stones. All are air-conditioned. Families are well catered for as well as handicapped guests as there are 2 specially-equipped rooms. The decor of our hotel in Douzy is simple. However, Catherine and Philippe are planning to change this by introducing a bit of colour.

If you pass through our restaurant in Douzy, you will find the breakfast room. In this refurbished half-timbered room, you will be served a generous sweet and savoury buffet. Although the restaurant room has not changed since the old owners, the philosophy of the place certainly has. There are no more pre-prepared dishes, just fresh and homemade products. The flavours are traditional and seasonal. The tastes are just right and full of flavour.

LE CŒUR D'OR

When taking over the kitchens of the Cœur d’Or, Philippe set himself an objective: to bring back cuisine worthy of this name. Not haute cuisine, just the pleasure of cooking fresh products, real products. He does his shopping, prepares his sauces and cooks everything at the last minute. So yes, the menu is short but it is a real treat for the taste buds.

The centre has been carefully renovated and is well worth a visit. The town is also known as far away as America for its textiles, which have a reputation for being very durable, and for its carpets which are popular in official palaces: the Duke of Windsor, Charles de Gaulle and President Kennedy have all walked upon them!
