Fans of Sisi, art lovers and and those looking for an insight into life back then will all find something of interest. The Sisi Museum, set in the apartments of the imperial palace houses many of Elisabeth’s personal items as well as the best known portraits of the beautiful empress.
WANDER AROUND SCHÖNBRUNN CASTLEThis former hunting pavilion set in the heart of a large park was turned into a grand palace in the mid-18th century. It was used as a summer residence for the imperial family and its court. The baroque building, all in yellow, has no less than 1,441 rooms. The apartments of Emperor Franz Josef I and his wife Elisabeth, the famous Sisi, are a must-see. The visit is also a chance to admire the empress’ elegant salon. In the heart of the castle is the Great Gallery, one of the most impressive ceremonial rooms in the world, decorated in a rococo style.
