A Normandy farmhouse…an English garden. A Normandy restaurant...an English chef. Welcome to Mike Allen and Sonia Picquenot’s hotel in Normandy.
“Offering you the experience of a charming little hotel and gourmet, field-to-fork food”.
Mike and Sonia finding La Ferme des Mares, The Originals Relais in Saint-Germain-sur-Ay during a Sunday stroll back in August 2007 is nothing short of an epic love story. The former farm - which had been subsequently converted into a riding school and abandoned - was not looking its best, “but we were mesmerized by the house’s spirit, despite it being cold and in such a poor condition at the time.” Mike and Sonia were 25 years old, and full of ideas, hopes, and energy. They bought it. Projects, brainstorming and building works ensued...“Our family hotel-restaurant, which we poured our heart and soul into designing, opened its doors on the 27 March 2010”. Sonia works out on the front desk and in the dining room, Mike takes care of the cooking (“an Englishman in the kitchen!”) and Jackson, their dog, enthusiastically accompanies guests on their strolls around the garden and Normandy countryside. “Since then, we have tried to honour this magical place by sharing our love of good food, the land around us here in Manche, and our sense of hospitality”. Enjoy a fantastic family holiday at La Ferme des Mares, The Originals Relais in Basse-Normandie.
There are 10 bedrooms. Each of them is spacious, bright and comfortable, and almost all of them also offer a lounge area. They all have their own individual style, whilst also retaining the characterful, sophisticated charm of La Ferme des Mares, The Originals Relais itself. Guests with reduced mobility will find a room here which is suitable for their requirements, over in the farm’s old bakehouse. Families, meanwhile, will be able to enjoy an apartment with 2 separate bedrooms and a reading corner.

The dining room is cosy, convivial and intimate, welcoming guests to breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the food on offer is local and/or organic. "Relaxing and romantic"
We had a fabulous stay at this hotel. The hosts were very friendly and offered us a free double upgrade which was very much appreciated. The room was huge and the bed was very comfy. The evening meal was absolutely delicious. It was a set menu and I am usually a fussy eater but I gave everything a try and really enjoyed it all. The hotel provides quiet and calm atmosphere; perfect for our romantic weekend away. We had a lovely stroll through the surrounding fields and enjoyed sitting by the lake, watching the ducks. Breakfast was also very nice, especially the freshly baked breads and croissants. Thank you very much.
