Christophe spent his formative years as a chef in England, Scotland and France, before turning to hotel management. He finally settled in Martigues near Marseille in 2000 at The Originals Boutique, Hotel Clair, Martigues.The hotel is nestled in a residential quarter and doesn't really draw your attention from the outside. But push back the door to be charmed. Christophe and his wife are bold and passionate interior designers. "We like to give new life to forgotten objects and furniture. So we have encased keys in the concrete floor, attached headboards to the wall and even given new life to an old wood-burning stove by fitting an induction hob which we use for serving breakfast. " Originality, calm and comfort reign in this 3-star hotel that offers a relaxing and distinctive stopping point after a visit to Martigues and its surroundings, which Christophe knows very well.

Uniformity has no place in the 31 rooms of The Originals Boutique, Hotel Clair, Martigues. Christophe and his wife wanted each room to have its own character and identity, but to retain the overall theme of antique hunting and finding new uses for items. Wooden shutters act as bedside tables, old doors, headboards... The atmosphere is warm and cosy. Comfortable and clean. All are attractive and well laid out to accommodate up to 4 people.

Although formerly a chef, Christophe has not included a restaurant in his establishment. He makes up for this at breakfast. His copious buffet offers a number of home-made items, chocolate mousse with cake and French toast, or the marvellous scrambled eggs and bacon on toast. Martigues is not lacking in savoury attractions for your lunches and dinners. Christophe will help you to find restaurants where the menu is simple and the food is home-made.

"Super séjour de Pâques"

Aceuil fort sympatique, chaleureux et attentioné. Merci aux employées (récéptioniste, la/les dames du petit déjeuner, femme de chambre) de travailer tout Pâque pour que nous clients puissent passer un séjour très agréable.

"Very nice staff and decent value."

The hotel staff is really nice and welcoming. The owner cooks delicious fresh meals from Monday to Friday, but if you feel like eating something else there are also high quality ready made classic French dishes available, and ordering from local restaurants is encouraged. If you feel like eating out, the hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the center which is buzzing with restaurants and bakeries. The rooms all have air-conditioning, good Wi-Fi (we stayed in 3 different rooms) are nicely decorated with antiques but it feels like some functionality got sacrificed for the sake of style.
