Niort is a charming city to visit when travelling down the Poitevin marsh or Atlantic roads. It is known for its atmosphere and for Richard the Lionheart's double dungeon which watches over the "angelic" city, named for the umbelliferous plant well-known to gourmets. POITEVIN MARSH

Go and explore the Poitevin marsh: it's located very near to the hotel. Listed as "Grand Site de France" since 2012 and "Grand Site d’exception", the Poitevin marsh remains the second most humid vast area in France behind the Camargue. One can explore by boat, following the 4,000 km long network of channels, by bicycle on 800 km of paths, or on foot, along the meadows lined with poplars and willows. The wet marshland, and its labyrinth of channels, stands in stark contrast to the vast flat expanses of the dry marsh leading to the sea.
