WALKS IN PARISHow about a walk to the Eiffel Tower to start? Without a doubt the world's most famous landmark. The views of Paris are fantastic on the third floor, 300 metres up. You'll make out Notre-Dame, Sainte-Chapelle and Ile de la Cité, the capital's historic birthplace. In the distance, you'll also see Sacré-Cœur, perched 130 metres above the city on the Montmartre mound. Don't miss a wander around this 'village' with its its steep, narrow streets and acres of vines.
DISCOVERING THE MUSEUMSThe Musée d'Orsay is perfect for those keen to admire the world's most beautiful collection of Impressionist paintings. Think Millet, Pissarro, Monet, Manet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne, Van Gogh and more. The former Orsay station is the setting for stunning collections from 1848 to 1914, complementing those in the Louvre and Pompidou Centre. You'll want to go to the Louvre for the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo alone. Visitors can choose between 403 exhibition rooms and 35,000 paintings. But Paris has more than a hundred other museums. The best known include the Pompidou Centre while the most original explore Magic, Robots and Dolls.
THE UNUSUAL PÈRE-LACHAISEVisiting the Père-Lachaise cemetery is truly surprising. Head for the 10th arrondissement to discover Paris' most prestigious necropolis. The cemetery covers 44 hectares and combines an English-style garden with a place for prayer. All of the funerary art styles are present: Gothic tomb, Haussman-style vault, Antiquity-inspired mausoleum... You will discover the graves of Honoré de Balzac, Guillaume Apollinaire, Frédéric Chopin, Colette, Jean-François Champollion, Jean de la Fontaine, Molière, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Jim Morrison, Alfred de Musset, Édith Piaf, Camille Pissaro and Oscar Wilde.
ÎLE-DE-FRANCE CASTLESGo out and discover the Île-de-France's castles from your hotel. From Versailles, famous for its Hall of Mirrors, its gardens and its Grand Trianon, to Vaux-le-Vicomte and including Chantilly and its vast forest lands, Fontainebleau and many others, magnificent vestiges from the past are there to welcome you, ideally located just a few kilometres from the capital. Indeed, the region is home to gems which are easily accessible.
