ORADOUR-SUR-GLANEOn 10 June 1944, four days after the arrival of Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy, an entire village—642 people—was destroyed by the elite "Das Reich" division. Sections of burnt-out walls, a memorial, and a cemetery where the victims were buried bear witness to the events. The Memorial Centre, which teaches future generations about the depths of human violence, symbolises both destruction and resistance.
