An art hotel with a certain art de vivre. Welcome to Sylvia Stropoli’s hotel.
“Every morning I think to myself ‘how can I make people who are away from home feel as good here as they do at home.”
“The hotel industry? I was born into it!” Sylvia, a young bubbly and energetic woman, and her brother grew up in another hotel a few streets away (which they also manage). Just opposite Toulon train station (as the name suggests), The Originals Boutique, Grand Hotel de la Gare, Toulonis popular with many guests on stopovers, but also provides comfortable budget accommodation to a lot of people coming for short stays. Like them, if you are visiting Toulon for business or holidays, you are sure to enjoy the convenience of the location as well as the family atmosphere in this 3-star establishment with its 39 rooms. Sylvia recruited local artists and craftspeople for the hotel’s recent renovation. “My maternal grandmother was passionate about antiques, we inherited a taste for nice things from her.” The result is a wonderful mix of simplicity of lines, modern colours and creative whims.
The Originals Boutique, Grand Hotel de la Gare, Toulon 39 rooms, from standard to quadruple, have been decorated in collaboration with Gil Frechet, a Parisian artist living in Toulon. A photographer with training as a style designer, he has created his artistic vision between simplicity, smooth lines and fun touches. Soundproof, air-conditioned and all accessible by lift, these rooms are a real haven of peace for your holidays, business trips or stopovers.

The Originals Boutique, Grand Hotel de la Gare, Toulon puts on a generous buffet breakfast every morning in a large and well-lit room. The focus is on the original custom-made central table displaying a selection or sweet and savoury organic products. Also note the Toulon proverb written on the wall: “Ches si levo de Touloun, se levo de la raisoun” (he who leaves Toulon, loses his mind). The hotel does not have a restaurant. But no need to lose your mind, Sylvia and her team can provide good advice to help you discover the authentic flavours of their city.
“In Toulon, you can take a boat ride across the roadstead, take a cable car up Mount Faron for a nature walk, visit a museum, see a show in the evening and dine in an excellent restaurant, all in one day. There’s no need to choose between sea, city and mountains, everything is on site,” as Sylvia explains!
SEAIt’s hard to miss the city’s famous roadstead. If you want to make the most of the sea, you can also easily visit the city’s many beaches, or rent a paddleboard or kayak from the Yacht Club to access creeks and sea caves.
NATURETake a walk for a few hours or even a whole day and explore Mount Faron. Take the red cable cars for an experience that is unique on the Mediterranean coast: panoramic views of the roadstead and the inland of the Var department, walks and hikes along signposted footpaths, a zoo, the Memorial of the Landing in Provence, picnic areas, small play areas...
VAR DEPARTMENTThe department offers many options for trips and exploring: the wine route, the islands of Porquerolles, Levant and Port-Cros, the magnificent inlets of Cassis as well as the towns of Hyères, Aubagne, Sanary-sur-Mer and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, not forgetting the natural beauty of the Estérel Massif and the Gorges du Verdon.
What our customers say
Exceptional cleanliness and very comfortable.
staff was very helpful. location is great so the people. nice town and good food. maybe the only problem is the price of drinks in some bars.
"We would repeat!"
It was all perfect, a good, comfortable and very clean room, the stuff was very kind and helpful to us, and the breakfast had all we need to start a great day. For sure The Originals will be one of the first options when we travel again.
"Another perfect experience"
This is my go-to hotel in Toulon for quick trips when visiting friends. The staff are always polite, attentive, and appear to genuinely like working there. The air conditioning can be very, very cold if desired. Consistent hot water? yep, that too. And free, secure bag storage for those of us who take the last train back home. Basically, if you don't like surprises and want a no-drama, clean place to stay choose this hotel.
We so enjoyed our night in Toulon. The front desk clerks were always welcoming, kind and helpful. The location directly across from the train station could not have been more convenient for us too.
"Gem of a hotel"
We arrived after a long train ride and loved just walking across the street to our hotel. Quirky, cute place, very helpful staff.
"3 stars? "
Room 208 : classic bedding (140 size, not fluffy at all), conduit very noisy when other rooms are using it, the hotel hasn't got a parking or reserved places (even if it's marked on the website "Parking") but it's right that there is a very reduced price for QPark. The bathroom is still in its original condition. For the rest of the room, it's very clean and well trimmed!
"Good price for value"
Positive: the hotel lies just opposite the railway station. Friendly personnel. Good beds. Although the bathroom was not so big it was well and modern equiped. The breakfast was good. You could choose from different kid of bread, marmelades etc. Room cleaning was good. Room for improvement: it was a pity there were no sockets near the bedside table to charge your mobile. In the smaller rooms using your laptop you have to sit on your bed to work on a folding table.
"Hot and slippery! Room 407. "
I love this hotel and have used it for many years for it’s convenient position. I found the super modern shower was too smooth and slippery. Good mattress was topped with soft topper which became very hot. Didn’t “breath” Hope you can do something before someone slips in the shower., or I self combust when I come back in September!
"Relax and bright expérience B"
Nice and quiet rooms, good breakfast, staff helpfull. Lacks a kettle for tea in the room.
"Artistic Accommodations "
We enjoyed the choice of art, especially the mural over our bed in room #209. Comfortable beds and plenty of space was also appreciated. I was a little disappointed that staff did not offer assistance with our luggage since the elevator was not working. And, (I post this to all owners of French hotels) the glass partition in the bath/shower is close to useless if the purpose is to prevent water from spilling out onto the floor. Consider a shower curtain. It is a very simple device that would solve this persistent problem.
