A beautiful thirties-style building with an environmentally-friendly ethos overlooking the majestic sea. Finistère. Welcome to Finistère.
“Taking time out with my guests, helping them make the most of their time with me. I do my work with passion, it’s what we’re all about.”
When they turned fifty, Anne wanted a change. My plan was to take over the running of an existing hotel, and I came across this particular one that was up for sale. I both threw myself in without asking too many questions”. Eight months of hard work later, this beautiful thirties building has regained all of its original charm, but through sustainable development, which is something the new owners hold very dear to their hearts. Alongside sustainable materials carefully chosen for the renovation work, their approach can also be seen in everyday gestures, such as choosing local produce for cooking, including seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible. Opened in 2016, the 3-star Hotel de la Mer, The Originals Relais will certainly charm you with its authenticity and striking sea views. A 3-star view.
The Hotel de la Mer, The Originals Relais offers 26 bedrooms. Each room has a unique personality. The décor is sober, whilst the colours are fresh and bright. It’s a real breath of fresh air. Some rooms even include an amusing nod to the sea. Choose between the 18 rooms with sea views (some with terrace or balcony), 8 apartments with views over Brittany’s beautiful countryside, or a 3-bedroom studio, with one room specially adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

The omnipresent sea. From the large bay windows in the dining room to your plate. From the breakfast buffet, where you’ll find delicious oysters, to the restaurant’s full menu, which gives pride of place to the big blue ocean. Try the ‘oreilles de la mer’ (abalones) and the local Brittany seaweed (from the biggest seaweed fields in Europe!). In line with their eco-friendly approach, all food comes directly from producers - even the coffee beans are roasted locally.
THE CHARDONS BLEUS
All the rich varieties of flora and fauna, marine life and Brittany’s wonderful culture are just a stone’s throw from the hotel. Northern Finistère’s main highlights are all less than an hour away. Anne will be more than happy to help guide you in whatever you want to see and do on your visit.
Indulge yourself in a moment of relaxation at the hotel’s spa, offering a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, where you can switch from one to the other, depending on how you feel. Seaweed treatments and massages are also available upon booking.
ACTIVITIESThe hotel has teamed up with several partners to help you discover new activities in the local area, from sand yachting and kayaking to snorkelling. For those of you who prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground (like the locals), why not go for a hike? The famous ‘Sentier des douaniers’ (GR 34) passes just in front of the hotel. Cycling, golf, fishing, horse riding... there’s plenty to enjoy in the local area.
THINGS TO SEE NEARBYThe thatched cottages of Meneham, an old fishing, farming and seaweed village; the parishes of Guisseny, Saint-Thégonnec and Guimiliau; Pontusval lighthouse on île vierge; Batz island with its rich flora and fauna; the exotic gardens in Roscoff, and much more.
What our customers say
"Brasserie was disappointing "
The service was disorganised, food arrived in bits , no cutlery, order wasn't taken properly, then drinks didn't arrive as ordered.. The menu was disappointing, no sandwiches or Childrens meals. A wonderful venue, good rooms, unfortunately let down by the brasserie service, that consequently put us off from eating in the al a carte restaurant.
Great Location and great views. Food was excellent. Spa facilities bit of a let down. Steam room locked, Sauna switched off and Jacuzzi just a little cold.
