Although Pascale and François are hoteliers, first and foremost they are family. And this hotel is their chalet. An honest living space which oozes happiness and the simple pleasures of life: for this couple, who were looking for “human connections” and “independence”, found their happy place in Les Contamines-Montjoie in Haute Savoie, and they love sharing this happiness with their guests at the Hotel Chalet-Hôtel La Chemenaz, The Originals Relais. Faced with the majesty of the mountains, everlasting snow and Mont Blanc, a visit to this 4-star hotel is a dream to be shared, and an experience unlike any other. Its 40 rooms are little havens of cosiness with a Savoyard charm, with wonderful views of the landscape. Pascale and François made their dream come true; now, they want to do the same for their guests.

Classic Savoyard décor in natural, heat-treated wood combines ultimate comfort with charm: the 36 rooms and 4 suites at this 4-star hotel are all fully-equipped little havens of cosiness. They also feature a few touches of modernity in the form of creature comforts. Most of the rooms have large windows or bay windows looking out over the glaciers of Mont Blanc or Val Joly. Pascale and François have created proper living spaces for their guests; some with a hint of romance, and others a heartwarming simplicity.

"Fabulous staff, gorgeous location and great food! "

A beautiful location with fantastic staff. We were very impressed by the friendly, professional staff -especially in the restaurant and bar and told the management how delighted we were. The staff worked together brilliantly as a team -all the more impressive following the challenges the hotel must have faced with Covid. We had a lovely, spacious family room with very comfortable beds - cleaning staff were also helpful and smiley. We had a refreshing swim in the pool on arrival and a fantastic dinner by the lake's edge with a stunning sunset. Well done to all the staff - you make a great team - keep up the great work - félicitations et bonne continuation de toute la famille! We hope to return for a longer stay on our next trip to England.

"Lovely place to stay for hiking holiday"

Chemenaz is a cosy hotel with lots of facilities: excellent breakfast, lovely diner opportunities, possibility of rich lunch package, nice terras with garden around swimming pool (shared with appartements). We enjoyed the friendly personel and owner who were helpful in advising on our daily hiking tours.

"Lovely place, great people"

Our rooms were clean and comfy, quite charming. Meals were wonderful and portions good. The staff were friendly and accommodating (and very patient with our stumbling French. Their English was FAR better!). The setting is very pretty, lots of green, yet we could walk easily to most places. (Important since we were hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc and had no car.). We’d definitely go back.

MOUNTAIN OUTINGS

Les Contamines-Montjoie is a beautiful place from which to get out and about in the Mont Blanc massif all year round. A walk to the Joly pass offers some fantastic scenery. At an altitude of 1989m, the view over the Mont Blanc massif, the Beaufortain valley, the Girotte lake and the Aravis mountain range will take your breath away. It’s even more beautiful from the Aiguille Croche, but to get here you need to be a seasoned hiker.

ALL YOU NEED TO SKI

Perched up at 1164m, skiers will love the slopes at the Les Contamines-Montjoie ski resort, which stretch for hundreds of kilometres and go up to 2,500m. The village is also part of the Évasion Mont Blanc ski area, which offers 445km of slopes across 6 resorts in the Mont Blanc massif including Saint-Gervais, Megève, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, Combloux and La Giettaz.

SPORTS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES

During the summer, Les Contamines-Montjoie is heaven on earth for lovers of the mountains and the great outdoors. There are over 50 different sports on offer here, right on the doorstep of the Hotel The Originals La Chemenaz. Les Contamines nature reserve is also nearby. Pascale and François particularly recommend a hike to the Notre Dame de La Gorge chapel along the GR5, which passes right by the hotel. The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is also an option. Mountain bikes are available from the hotel. Guests can also enjoy a relaxing day at the Pontet leisure centre, 5 minutes from the chalet.
