The Originals City, Hotel Bristol, Le Puy-en-Velay is a surprise. An establishment with modern tastes behind its old façade; a quiet corner located on one of the town’s most frequented avenues. "The long reception area naturally guides guests towards the inner courtyard," explains Alexia, the manager of this 3-star hotel in Auvergne region. A quiet corner right in the centre of Puy-en-Velay with a protected terrace shaded by linden trees, flowers, a vegetable garden and no traffic noise. Calm is also a good word to describe the 44 rooms of this newly renovated hotel. As for the cuisine, the chef invites foodies and gourmets alike to enjoy home-made, traditional fare. A real welcome, exchanges and values, as Alexia emphasises: "I like my guests to leave with a smile on their faces and the desire to come back here."

"Very satisfying, but..."

Excellent short stay? Staff very friendly. Rooms OK. Together with the booking, evening meal was bookied and confirmed by phone. But, at our arrival it seemed no reservation was made; We had to go in town to find another (excellent) restaurant.

Le Puy-en-Velay is an unspoilt town endowed with an exceptional sacred heritage and a wealth of cultural and spiritual riches to discover: Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral, a jewel of 12th century Romanesque art, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the statue of Notre-Dame-de-France protecting the city, reaching a height of 757 m on Corneille rock; Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel, built in 961 on an old volcano, accessed by climbing 268 steps carved into the rock.
